January's Micro Adventure to Gorton Bothy

On Friday 17 January 2014 Jonny, Richard and myself met at Bishopton train station jumped into Jonny's trusty Toyota Yaris and headed north for our first micro adventure of the year to Gordon bothy near Bridge of Orchy.

After a really tasty fish supper and a pint at Tyndrum we headed for a small car park just off the A82 past Bridge of Orchy, packed up our things, checked the map and made our way into the foggy darkness in search of Gorton Bothy. With some confusion between the GPS and the map and compass we found the path the would take us there.

A few kilometers into our hike the moon broke threw the clouds illuminating the whole glen and mountain side allowing us to walk without the use of our head torches. There is something very satisfying about walking in the mountains under the moonlight.

After 8km of strolling along in the moonlight with good banter (moons oot taps aff!) we stumbled upon the bothy. It was a welcome sight as the extra luxuries for the night started to become a bit of a burden on our backs i.e 20kilo of coal, bag of kindling, crate of beer, wine, whiskey and a cheese board! It was all worth it when we opened the wee door to the bothy got our bags down and got the fire roaring, soon we where warm dry and having a good laugh around the fire getting stuck into our food and drink, and putting some plans in place for the next micro adventure.

We had a good lie in on Saturday morning, got ourselves a good hearty breakfast and done some cleaning up around the bothy, then made our way back to the car and headed for home just in time before a nasty band of rain began hammering the west coast .

Thanks for a cracking micro adventure lads. Looking forward to the next one.

The Mission

This year my friends and I have decided to plan a micro adventure every month for 2014, the mission is for these adventures to take me to places that I have never been before, far and near . I thought it would be an idea to keep an up to date blog of our adventures to share with friends and family.

As well as my monthly micro adventure I will be posting about my trips around the country and the world as well as into the Scottish mountains hiking, rocking climbing, winter climbing, skiing, mountain biking and maybe some other activities I don't do so much!

January's micro adventure has been planned and I'm packed and ready to go. Will be posting my first micro adventure soon!
